Presence of accessory coracobrachialis and its clinical importance – a case report

چکیده
Introduction Coracobrachialis is a weak flexor muscle of the arm. It originates from the tip of the coracoid process of scapula together with the short head of biceps brachii. Its tendon is inserted to the middle of the medial border of humerus where the nutrient foramen is located. The musculocutaneous nerve usually pierces the muscle and supplies it [1, 2]. This muscle is functionally not so important in the arm and is said to be a weak flexor and adductor of the arm. Coracobrachialis is known to show variations [3, 4]. The variations reported include the presence of accessory slips that get attached to medial epicondyle, medial supracondylar ridge, lesser tubercle and the medial intermuscular septum. We saw an accessory coracobrachialis muscle which is quite unique in its attachments and has not been reported yet.

An axillary arch muscle – a case report
Introduction A number of accessory muscle slip cases in the axilla arising from latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major, ribs and costal cartilages have been reported by different authors [1]. These accessory muscle slips in the axilla have been described under variety of names (e.g., chondro-epitrochlearis, dorsoepitrochlearis, etc). These variant bundles are commonly referred to as “axillary arch”...
متن کاملA Case Report of Renal Artery Variation
Awareness of the presence of the accessory renal artery in kidney transplant, treatment of renal artery stenosis, clinical assessment of renal vascular hypertension, radiology and angiography interventions is very helpful. In 30% of cases the accessory renal artery is separated from the abdominal aorta and in most cases, this artery along with the main artery entered to the kidney through t...
متن کاملAn accessory branch of musculocutaneous nerve joining median nerve
We observed an accessory branch of the musculocutaneous nerve. This variation has clinical importance in median nerve lesions and its distinctive diagnosis. The coracobrachialis muscle is usually supplied by the musculocutaneous nerve. Its innervation pattern exhibits a considerable variation [1]. The change in the innervation of the coracobrachialis muscle is reported to be closely correlated ...
متن کاملCase Report: Formation of Median Nerve by Three Roots
Atypical connections in the formation of the brachial plexus are prevalent and have been reported in different articles. The present report describes a case of variation of the median nerve observed in the Iranian male cadaver during routine trial dissection. There are three roots for median nerve. Median nerve is formed by joining two lateral and medial cords of brachial plexus. Third root ...
متن کاملVariant insertion of coracobrachialis muscle in a South Karnataka cadaver
BACKGROUND The coracobrachialis is a muscle of arm has been known for its morphological variations. The variation of the coracobrachialis reported in this case is unique and to the best of our knowledge this variation is not reported in south karnataka population. CASE PRESENTATION During routine dissection, we observed an unusual insertion of a coracobrachialis muscle with an accessory slip ...
